A day in Marseille.
The young people arrive in school via the school bus – and, while the French students go to their classes, we take a coach to Marseilles. First stop – the Mucem, the new museum of Mediterranean civilisation – both beautiful and interesting. ‘Le Petit Train’ takes us around Marseille with a stop at Notre Dame de La Garde, the cathedral which looks over Marseiile – breathtaking interior and views.
After a picnic lunch overlooking the Vieux Port – and what amazing picnics our kind hosts provided – we take the Metro. The teachers put their trust in the young people to lead the way through the Metro – the right line in the right direction, a change of line and off at the right stop at the end!
After a much needed cup of tea (for the teachers), we walked to a theatre for a special workshop – an excellent experience for ‘la language du corps’ and ‘la langue française’. The coach picks us up on a busy roundabout – it pulls over and we jump on!
Back to school and then home with our hosts for a brief sit down before we return to school for a Soirée – delicious savoury and sweet canapés – with all the children, their families, some teachers, the Head, the Inspector….. A very special occasion to mark the first exchange for the Collège Marie Mauron. A delightful evening with compliments all round!
